Monica Monroy joined Cassady & Company in 2011. She is a trial lawyer practising in the area of civil litigation. Monica gained experience with insurance defence cases and personal injury claims while working as in-house counsel with a large insurance corporation. She has represented clients in both the Provincial Court and the Supreme Court of British Columbia. She also has experience in alternative dispute resolution and has represented clients in mediation and in settlement conferences.
Monica Monroy was born in the Philippines and immigrated to Canada at the age of eight. She grew up in Vancouver and completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of British Columbia. She attended the University of Calgary for her first year of law school and completed her Bachelor of Laws degree at the University of Victoria. While attending law school at UVic, Monica was a director of the Legal Information Clinic and she also worked as a research assistant to law professors in the areas of international environmental law, corporate law and tax law. As a student, she was fortunate to have the opportunity to assist senior counsel involved in the Supreme Court of Canada cases of Norberg v. Wynrib and Hodgkinson v. Simms. In 1993 Monica articled at the prominent Vancouver litigation firm of Walsh & Company.
In the community, Monica Monroy has been an executive member of the board of directors of the Vancouver Asian Heritage Month Society. She also has been a volunteer course facilitator on equality rights and has conducted workshops for the Lawyers’ Assistance Program of British Columbia.
